Description
The most detailed directory of its kind, this well-established publication covers libraries, archives and related organisations in the UK (including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) and Ireland. Formerly The Libraries, Museums & Art Galleries Year Book, it has been published by James Clarke since 1897, making it one of the longest established directories in the UK.
The latest edition of The Libraries Directory has over 4,100 entries, an increase of more than 300 entries from the previous edition. Coverage includes libraries and archives of all kinds, from national libraries to parish libraries, from public libraries to in-house company libraries, from county record offices to the archives of private institutions, from university libraries to school libraries, from museum resource centres to professional medical libraries, from libraries of religious bodies to libraries held by stately homes, and many, many more. Complementing this coverage are sections devoted to organisations connected with the library, archive and information sector, ranging from professional organisations, policy-making bodies and co-operative schemes, to family history societies and local studies groups.
The content of the Directory is detailed as well as extensive – entries include full contact details, along with details of access, opening hours, subject coverage and special collections, stock and acquisitions, facilities for users, publications, membership and much more.
The new edition retains the same user-friendly layout developed in previous editions, including the use of pictorial icons that allow you to distinguish the type of each library or institution at a glance. Fully cross-referenced, The Libraries Directory also includes an extensive index covering library and organisation names, as well as subjects and major collections. In addition, the information is also provided on a fully searchable CD-ROM, which includes hypertext navigation, browsable indexes, advanced search facilities, bookmarks, printing facilities, email facilities and links to library websites.
As a marketing tool, the Directory is invaluable for publishers, booksellers, wholesalers, library equipment suppliers and for anybody working in and for the libraries sector. The Marketing Version CD-ROM includes facilities for compiling, saving and editing mailing lists based on detailed search criteria, along with built-in facilities for printing address labels and performing printed and email mail merges.
